I got two stalks of rhubarb in my box. Not wanting to mix them with a pile of sugar, I searched the web for savory rhubarb recipes and found this: Savor the Rhubarb. Take some time to explore this site, there are many nuggets of unintentional comedy gold. I didn’t end up using anything from this site, but I just had to share because it brought me a lot of giggles.
I basically followed the recipes in the links, so click through to check them out. I did add a bit of Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke to the rhubarb sauce for a little extra flavor. The chicken was pretty basic, boneless, skinless thighs seasoned with salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning, grilled until nearly done and then basted a few times with the sauce.
This was a yummy meal prepared mainly on the grill, so it’s good for those warm summer days when you don’t want to fire up the oven. The sauce is tangy and slightly sweet and made a great complement for the chicken. Give it a try the next time you’re overloaded with rhubarb! The lettuce was slightly softened but still had plenty of crunch in the center, and it was great with just parmesan sprinkled across the top.
This summer I signed up with a CSA from Oxbow Farms, and I’m planning meals in order to not waste all the beautiful veggies I’ll be getting. I won’t go into details about each box I get, but so far this spring it’s been mostly greens, as should be expected. Given that there are several things in these boxes that I’ve never tried before, I’ve decided to keep track of my dinners here. Hopefully this will be updating a few times a week and I’ll tell you what worked, and what didn’t, and hopefully we both learn something by the end of the summer!
So, meal #1. Wow. I would call this a success and kind of surprised myself with how good it was!
Today I learned that Maotai in Chinese can mean ‘the great ultimate cat’. Seems like destiny.
It’s true, I stink at blogging, but I just made that pumpkin bread again and it was just amazing. You really should just make it right now.
I moved to Seattle a couple months ago, and things have happened that were actually worth blogging about. But I’m not going to blog about them now. Right now, I’m going to say that I’m bringing Maotai here after Christmas, and then I’ll have an excuse to enter the blog world once again.
